A little bit more....

I worked a bit today on the next horse. You can make out the remaining horses a little.
I am anxious to get this one finished.

I was able to get a bit more done on the first horse and had to go over the pencil lines on the rest because they were too light and this is a complicated painting with all those horse legs!
More later...

New Gypsy Vanner WIP

I am starting on a new Gypsy vanner painting. Reference photo courtesy Jim Wheeler.
It is going to be five horses running towards the camera. I am sorry that the pencil drawing of the remaining horses doesn't show up.
This is a work in progress......

Companions

I started this painting last weekend with the intention that it will be for an equine art show hosted by the Washington Thoroughbred Association. The showing is at Emerald Downs, our local thoroughbred track in Auburn, Washington. and will be held in July
I will be starting another this weekend.

This painting shows the obvious caring attitude between two horses as they blow into each others nostrils. This is how horses get to know each other.
The breed of these horses is "Gypsy Vanner" because they were the horses that pulled the Gypsy vans in the old days. They are basically a large draft type pony and have been bred for their spotted patterns and copious manes and tails.
